This year will mark the 135th anniversary of one of Iowa’s oldest celebrations, Kinderfest, in Manning. Elissa Riesberg with the Manning Chamber of Commerce says this is really just a fun day for children.
Riesberg says she has fond memories of her childhood with the annual parade that is a little bit different than those you may see in other communities.
The kids will line up at the end of Main Street in preparation for the parade, where they will receive a goodie bag and a voucher for an ice cream. The day will really get going at 8 a.m. with a 5K run/walk, with registration forms available at City Hall and that morning at the race. Riesberg says they will have some surprises throughout the day added to all the activities already announced for kids of all ages at Manning City Park.
Raffle tickets will be available for purchase, and Riesberg says they have a lot of great prizes this year.
Raffle tickets are $1 each or a book of 10 for $9. They can be purchased ahead of time at First National Bank, Templeton Savings Bank, City Hall or the Manning Pharmacy. They will also be sold at Kinderfest from the information booth. You need not be present to win.
