The 2018 RAGBRAI pre-ride tour made their way through the local area earlier this week, hitting the Denison to Jefferson route on Monday, June 4. This day is touted as the longest ride of the week, with an impressive 2,527-foot climb to get to the end of the day. Riders traveled the route from Denison to Aspinwall, through Manning and then stepped off Highway 141 to the east for a tour of Templeton before heading back down to the state highway and on to Dedham, Coon Rapids, Scranton and the Highway to Bells at Jefferson. The RAGBRAI pre-ride also gives organizers the opportunity to put together some interesting facts about each stop so riders can pre-plan their must-sees along the way. Denison and Aspinwall are all set to provide breakfast items to riders as they head out in the morning and Manning has a variety of vendors and entertainment at the City Park, Main Street and the Freedom Rock at the Hausbarn. The option to have a free “refreshing” beer near the Manning City Park on the way into town is available courtesy of the Aureon Contact Center. Nearby they will find a DJ for entertainment at the beer garden, vendors with a variety of food options and additional choices for food, drink and entertainment down the historic brick Main Street. On the way out of town to the east, riders will find Manning’s own Brad Morgan performing near the Freedom Rock at the Hausbarn Heritage Park. As they continue through Carroll County, cyclists will also be able to experience “the good stuff” on the newly expanded grounds of Templeton Rye. From there, they will be thankful to stop and have “One Hill of a Time” in Dedham before heading to their meeting stop in Coon Rapids. Not only will there be plenty of food and drink in the river city, entertainment will include a DJ in the beer garden on Main Street and the chance for riders to unwind and listen to local celebrities who will be providing musical selections that could include a fiddle, guitar and possibly even a ukulele.
