Carroll Broadcasting: Earlier this year, the community leaders in Manning commissioned a hotel study to evaluate the feasibility of bringing lodging into the city as well as to determine the size, scope and business models that would be most appropriate to meet the communities lodging needs. The report, contracted with the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Value Added Agriculture Program, has been completed and presented to Manning officials for review. A committee comprising local government officials as well as economic development and business leaders is speaking with two hotel chains to decide if one of them will fit Manning’s goals. Carroll Broadcasting: Just challenge the people in Manning, and it will get done. Last night (Monday), the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and Main Street Iowa awarded Main Street Manning a $75,000 Challenge Grant for expansion of the Manning Child Care Center. IEDA Director, Debi Durham, said, “Main Street Manning continues to be a very strong program, due in large part to community leaders who strive to keep the program unique and closely aligned with the area’s economic development goals. Expanding the childcare center not only meets a community need,” she added, “but also serves as a downtown traffic generator and, ultimately, brings more families to the community.”
