Manning can be proud of its C3 (Christ, Community, Celebration) organization. As its name implies, it honors our Lord in everything it does. It sponsors several projects each year including the annual June concert. Come see amazing musical talent in a wonderful outdoor park setting between two historical buildings including the 1660's era German Hausbarn Heritage Park!! Consider this to be your invitation to a wonderful time and refreshing venue. Free admission, free food and free fellowship! Carroll County's Freedom Rock is across the road from the concert - check it out also!!
Memorial Day is upon us. This is a good time to reflect on those who have passed before us – especially the brave men and women who fought for our country. It is time to remember and also a good time to give thanks to all who have served and are serving!
I expected 2016 to be slower for Manning than the past few years. Maybe the second half will be! Boulders Inn & Suites of Manning LLC purchased and closed on two acres immediately west of the Hausbarn-Heritage Park. Construction started the first week of April and the 32 room hotel is already framed and roofed! Grand opening is slated for October. In less than one year from the initial meeting gauging investor interest, the building will be completed! Boulders of Manning will have a surprise. While maintaining the ambiance of the tall ceilings in the lobby area that exist in all Boulders, the Manning lobby will have an exciting unique décor. Come visit our grand opening in October to see!
Neither the Boulders’ nor the Hausbarn-Heritage Park teams were enamored with the name of the gravel road leading to the location. So, in typical Manning fashion, we changed it. With 56% of the vote using the Survey Monkey online tool, the new name will be Heritage Drive and the road will be paved as part of the improvements.
Char-Mac Assisted Living with its 36 rooms will open June 1st. This project fills a medical gap and housing gap in our community. We are thankful to have this award winning company and management team to serve those in need.
Speaking of housing, the Carroll County Housing study is out and Manning wasted no time getting organized. A committee spanning various industries have already met and laid out an action plan to proceed. I am excited to see the results of their work and even more excited to see actual housing construction!
A Manning Christian organization, C3 (Christ, Community, Celebration) will hold its annual concert in the Hausbarn-Heritage on Sunday June 5th. Gates open at 4:00 and the free Christian concert starts at 5:45. Come see amazing musical talent in a wonderful outdoor park setting between two historical buildings including the 1660’s era Hausbarn!! Free admission, free food and free fellowship! Carroll County's Freedom Rock is across the road from the concert - check it out also!!
As part of our two year partnership with Drake University, Manning will host 25 young business leaders from Africa on July 23rd. During their six week visit, Manning is the only small community on their itinerary. We look forward to hosting them!!
We have the results of Drake’s Public Relations recommendations for Manning. Main Street Manning hired a 2016 Drake graduate to begin implementation. He starts this week. More on that in the next column.

Every Main Street program is encouraged to submit one Leadership Award nomination to recognize a person or couple who has been an inspirational leader and Main Street volunteer during the duration of the local program.
Dawn Rohe was Manning’s Leadership Award winner. Her nomination stated: “Dawn is the perfect example of the value of youth in leadership roles. As Manning’s City Administrator, she was instrumental in Manning’s successful application to become a Main Street community in 2009. She has served as a board member and officer and her contributions reach far beyond the board room. She has written and/or assisted with Main Street Manning’s Challenge Grant applications, as well as many other local foundation grants. She drove Manning’s CDBG/DTR project from application to completion and successfully pursued Manning’s Commercial Historic District listing on the National Register. Dawn is largely responsible for Manning’s success – PERIOD!
