Manning is truly a unique community that works together to accomplish much. Hard work by volunteers have made this an award winning community. We all take pride in our town and work to improve it for our families, businesses, churches and residents. We would like to invite you, your club, organization or youth group to participate in a community clean-up day scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd. It will focus on public areas such as city ball fields, city parks, alleys, roadways, Willow Creek, Nishnabotna River and any area of concern that our citizens express.
Activities will consist of picking up garbage, hauling junk away, cleaning waterways, and picking-up trash from road ditches and streets.
Volunteers should report to the shelter house in the city park were we will:
• Compile a list of individuals, clubs, and organizations willing to work to clean-up the area.
• Match volunteers and groups with a project or area that was identified.
• Have the necessary supplies and equipment.
We call this "REFRESHING MANNING' Day and are asking you to actively participate by volunteering to help. Please report to the shelter house at the city park starting at 8:00 a.m. We will work until all the areas are cleaned, which should be completed between 11:00 a.m. and noon. Lunch will be served.

After comments were reviewed from a previous community-wide survey, Manning’s leaders recognized that many of the residents were looking for additional outdoor recreational facilities. This time, they were saying they wanted to see something more geared towards adults. Board President of Main Street Manning, Ron Reischl, said local government entities and betterment organizations put their heads together and the idea for Milwaukee Trestle Park on the north end of town was born. The historic trestle is located near the previous Manning Ag Center, which Reischl said needed to be excavated to fulfill their vision.
That initial phase is to include a sand volleyball court and their first piece of outdoor exercise equipment. Reischl said they are looking at pieces that can be used by adults and youngsters alike, as well as handicapped individuals. Audio Next winter, the goal is to build a sculpture of the word IOWA that will serve as a park entrance. Preliminary plans for the park called for the preservation of one of the buildings at the site that could be renovated for use as a shelter house with modern restrooms. Reischl said demolition revealed that plan needed to be adapted.

New park designs incorporate a shelter area and restrooms in the style of an old train depot that will complement the history of the area. The park is slated for completion by the end of 2017, however, there is an expectation that more construction and the addition of amenities will continue well into the future.
