1928 - American Legion Auxiliary donated $394 and signed an agreement with the City Council to use part of the City Hall for a library.
1929 - The City Hall location opened on April 19th and books were rented from the Denison Library for several years.
1934 - The library was taken over by the town and has since been supported by both city and county taxes.
1982 - Moved to 310 Main Street, where it remains.
2008 - Extensively remodeled with money left to the library by the late attorney, Erwin Hansen.
Fredda Hinz retired from the Manning Public Library in 1989 after 43 years of service. Her portrait hangs in the children’s section of the library and was painted by Virginia MicKunas, daughter of Amos Lee, former Manning school superintendent.
Renee Pfannkuch served as Director of the library from August 1990 to October 2015.
Judi Stribe served as Assistant Librarian from January 1994 to October 2015.
Lue Baker joined the library staff in July 2008.
Linda Muhlbauer started in September 2015 and is the current Director.
