Manning, IA Projects Underway or Recently Completed

 

Manning Regional Healthcare Center Expansion

-Approximate cost: $4.5 million

Addition of new surgical unit, patient reception/admission area, Emergency room, outpatient exam rooms, treatment room, and new wing for the Manning Plaza long-term care. Project completed: July 2000

 

Manning Telecommunication Project

-Approximate cost: $3.5 million Installation of fiber optic cable throughout the Manning community for access to broad band communication. This is a municipally owned project which provides the community of Manning, Iowa, not only with broad band high-speed telecommunication and Internet capability but also furnishes a state-of-the-art cable television system to the community. Project completed: January 2001

 

Caleris, Inc.

-Approximate cost: $900,000

Construction of a facility for expansion of a technical support company. Project substantially completed: November 2000

 

Manning Child Care Center

-Approximate cost: $420,000

Fundraising is underway for the center. The licensed facility will be located in the lower level of a new building that has been constructed for the ECI project. A $210,000 Community Development Block Grant has been awarded. Construction will begin Fall 2001. Projected opening is February 2002.

 

Ethanol Plant

-Approximate cost: $51 million

This project was initiated under the leadership of the Manning Betterment Foundation. The plant will be located near the city of Coon Rapids, Iowa. The construction for the contract of the project has been awarded. Plant construction commenced July 1, 2001. The plant is scheduled to be in operation 14 months after the date construction commences.

 

Heritage Park/Hausbarn Site

-Approximate cost: $2.5 million

Overall project involves completion of the authentic German Hausbarn and historic farmstead restoration, and establishment of a German-American Restaurant, Conference Center, Gift shop, German-American Immigrant Museum, and related projects. Progress dependent upon funding. The original goal is for completion by Spring of 2002.

 

Great Western Park

-Approximate cost: $525,000

Development of a 313 acre multi-use recreational facility southwest of Manning. This will be an ongoing project.

 

Loess Hill Aquaculture

-Approximate cost: $300,000

Development of alternative value-added agribusiness through three aquaculture sites. This is expected to be an ongoing project.

 

Third Street Central Business District Property Acquisition

Three properties were relocated on Third Street in the central business district by Manning Betterment Foundation. These properties were seriously deteriorated and constituted a safety hazard. Manning Betterment Foundation removed the buildings situated on these properties and the properties are available for commercial or retail use. Manning Betterment Foundation will either sell these properties or build on them for resale purposes or will consider lease arrangements or leases with option to purchase.

 

Southeast Corner of Main and Second Street

The property was relocated on Main and Second Street by Manning Betterment Foundation. The property was seriously deteriorated and constituted as a safety hazard. Manning Betterment Foundation removed the building situated on the property and the property is available for commercial or retail use. Manning Betterment Foundation will either sell the property or build on it for resale purposes or will consider lease arrangements or lease with option to purchase.

 

Manning Betterment Foundation Industrial Park

-Approximate cost to date: $953,000

Roads and utilities are in the process of being installed in the Industrial Park. There are presently 34 acres available for industrial, retail, and commercial use in this area. Electricity, natural gas, water, and sewer have been extended into the site.
