Please join us for an important county wide WELLNESS MEETING on Thursday, November 8th,
12 pm – 1 pm at the St. Anthony Room at St. Anthony Regional Hospital Education Center. A healthy snack will be provided.
Carroll County is creating a Wellness Coalition with the goal of making Carroll County the healthiest county in the healthiest state! We are looking for individuals interested in learning more about the coalition and those with a passion for healthy living. We would like to positively impact lives at home, at work, and at school.
John Stevens, Live Healthy Iowa Outreach Coordinator, will be speaking on ways to create and promote our Wellness Coalition, speak of his success with a coalition in Grundy Center, and promote Live Healthy Iowa 10 Week Governor’s Wellness Challenge that kicks off January 2013.
Governor Branstad is asking Iowans to “change their habits” and “change their lives” as we work to become the healthiest state! Iowa is currently ranked #19.
Iowa Health Facts/Projections:
Ø 1/3 of children age 2-5 are overweight to obese
Ø 1/2 of school-age children are overweight to obese
Ø 2/3 of adults are overweight to obese
Ø 1/3 of children born today will develop diabetes
Ø Lifestyle choices account for 85% of chronic disease (eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle greatly reduces chronic disease)
Ø Obesity and diabetes are the only major health problems getting worse
Ø By 2020 obesity will be the biggest killer on the planet
Ø 80% of dollars spent on health care could be saved if we exercise and establish healthy diets
Ø health insurance premiums have risen 10.5% annually since 2000
Ø health insurance is currently 1/3 of your pay check and if nothing changes will become 3/4 of your pay check by 2020
Ø insurance companies are now adjusting insurance rates (people who are healthier and have adopted healthier habits will pay a lower premium)
Come share your ideas on walking and running clubs, road races, nutrition classes and cooking, healthy grocery shopping, etc… Let’s work together to get fit and healthy! Your support and involvement is greatly appreciated.
