The Manning City Elections will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls open at 12:00 noon and close at 8:00 p.m. Manning voters will cast their ballots at the Sacred Heart Church Hall in Manning.
Incumbent, Harvey Dales, is running unopposed for the Mayor position. Four individuals are running for the three seats available on the City Council. Incumbents Richard Johnson and Andy Eischeid are seeking re-election. Heath Doyel and Lonny Rowedder are the other two candidates running for the council. Terms for mayor run two years. Council members serve a four year term. We encourage everyone to vote!
The IKM-Manning Board of Education has hired the firm of Iowa Schoolhouse Construction and Planning Services to evaluate and plan for the future of all buildings in the district. The activities the firm will provide include and not limited to:
• Evaluate all attendance centers for their minimum and maximum student capacities and present use.
• Evaluate enrollment trends and projections for future enrollment.
• Review current school locations, potential building sites, and school district growth areas.
• Provide the district with recommendations, all relevant information and an Action Plan for future building use and possible new buildings.
• Conduct a minimum of four community wide discussions and planning sessions.
They have scheduled four stakeholder feedback meetings for Kirkman, Irwin, Manning and Manilla.
The first has been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Kirkman Community Center on October 29th followed by another meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Irwin Gym.
Stakeholders have the opportunity to meet on November 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Auditorium in Manning and on November 6th in the Old Gym in Manilla starting at 7:00 p.m.
Beggar's Night in Manning is Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, 4 - 6 pm. Stop by houses with a porch light on.
The Main Street businesses invite you to bring the kids downtown on Thursday, Oct. 31st for treats. Visit businesses with a pumpkin in front of the store, 4-5 pm. The Plaza invites trick or treaters to stop by. They love seeing children in costume. Treats will be available.
Friday night, Nov. 1st is Kid's Night at the Manning Rec Center. They will also be holding a Halloween party. Costumes are encouraged!
Cindy Renze is chairing the Festival of Trees portion of Weihnachtsfest this year. She is asking individuals, businesses and organizations to consider decorating a tree (or two) for this event. Themed trees are encouraged. They would like the trees displayed during the Holiday Open House on November 14th & 15th, which is less than six weeks away. The trees will be displayed in the old Hometown Variety store. The more the better! Show off your talents by decorating a tree for the community event!
